Lisa Davis, Community of Schools Administrator
Greetings East Los Angeles! It’s an honor to serve the proud community I was born and raised in. As Community of Schools Administrator, I work in collaboration with our CoS Director, Operations Coordinator, and CoS Team to support our family of schools by providing guidance and insight to our principals with our 3 foci: Standards-based instruction, Leadership to design coherent, data-driven school plans, and most importantly, Equity and access for all students in this community so our children become the agents of social change for our future!
Ana Vega, Community of Schools Director
Happy 2021-2022 school year! My name is Ana Vega and I am the new and proud director of the amazing East Los Angeles Community of Schools. I have served in the education field for 21 years as a teacher, instructional coach, coordinator, assistant principal, and Principal. I look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders in ensuring that we always provide a nurturing and rigorous learning environment and experiences that allow for collaboration, adaptability, and critical thinking. I am honored and humbled to serve the East LA Community. I thank you in advance for all your support and would like to wish our East LA Community of learners a wonderful school year!
Enrique Perez, Operations Coordinator
As a product of LAUSD, Humphreys Ave, Griffith Junior High, and Garfield High School, I am privileged to serve our Local District East Schools. As a Local District East Operation Coordinator my day-to-day responsibilities include and are not limited to co-leading day-to-day district operations. These operations include student and school safety, attendance improvement, crisis support, maintenance, positive behavior support, student discipline foundation, staffing, electronic devices, and Covid-19 testing support. As a member of LDE Community of Schools, I make it my commitment to visit school campuses daily and collaborate with school administrators to ensure and provide guidance and of our school district’s vision and mission. It is my personal commitment and goal to serve students, families, district employee’s, and community members as a safety net that provides students the added access to achieve their college and career goals.
Claudia Ramirez, Secondary English Language Arts Instruction Coordinator
Fostering literacy skills for all students is the core of my essential role and responsibility at East Los Angeles Community of Schools. I work closely with teachers and administrators to identify best practices and instructional approaches to deliver high quality literacy instruction across disciplines. Our mission is to work towards addressing the literacy challenges and prepare them to become lifelong, confident agents of social change, who will utilize the power of literacy in a changing 21st century world.
Helen Kim, Elementary Math Instruction Coordinator
My name is Helen Kim and I am one of the Elementary Math Coordinators supporting the East Los Angeles Community of Schools. It has truly been a privilege to serve in the East Los Angeles area serving previously as the Dual Language Programs Coordinator and the former proud principal of El Sereno Elementary School.
In my current role as the Elementary Math Coordinator, I work closely with many of our teachers, leaders, and community members in highlighting rigorous math tasks and activities that prepare our students for college and career readiness.
Vanessa Jimenez, Secondary Math Instruction Coordinator
As a product of Local District East, I am excited and proud to work with our East Los Angeles students, teachers, administrators, and families! My goal as Secondary Mathematics Coordinator is to deliver high-quality professional development that promotes patient problem solving and highlights opportunities for students to apply math concepts in real-world situations. Building on the principles of Universal Design for Learning, I am committed to support our East LA educators in developing and delivering high-quality instruction that eliminates barriers and promotes equitable access and participation of all students.
Maria Gabriela Garcia (Gaby)- Specialist, Least Restrictive Environment
I am a proud product of LAUSD, Local District East. As a Specialist in the Division of Special Education I work hard to advocate for the equity and access of our students with different learning needs. I am committed to ensuring that services are delivered and that special education timelines are met. Through a coaching model, I support schools in developing effective systems to ensure compliance with timelines, provision of services, and the development of quality Individualized Education Plans. In order to provide support with instruction I work closely with school site administrators, teachers and staff developing research based instructional practices such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and positive behavior supports to create effective learning environments. Fostering successful learning environments allows students with disabilities meaningful access to common core state standards (CCSS) and the support documented in their IEPs. I firmly believe that working together we can ensure that all students succeed and thrive.
Elida Nunez- Program Specialist
I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Los Angeles and a proud product of LAUSD! With over 10 years of experience as an Education Specialist, I have had the opportunity of serving the needs of culturally, racially, and socio-economically diverse students in the Boyle Heights community. Advocating for students with disabilities has always been my passion, and I will continue this work as a Program Specialist. I am excited to collaborate and support the East Los Angeles community to ensure students’ needs are met in all environments.
Laura Banuelos, Parent Educator Coach
Listen up, East LA! I am Laura Bañuelos and what an amazing opportunity to be able to serve this community as a Parent Educator Coach with the LD East Parent and Community Engagement Unit. As a proud product of LAUSD, it is a privilege to give back to the community that inspired, guided and challenged me to follow my dreams. In my capacity, I work with school personnel to increase student achievement through parent engagement. I support and provide assistance with parent workshops, Parent and Family Centers, English Learner Advisory Committee, School Site Council, LD East Study Groups, the Volunteer Program just to list a few.
Elizabeth Gonzalez, Parent Education Support Assistant
As a former LAUSD graduate it is a pleasure to serve the community I grew up in. As a Parent Education Support Assistant I am committed to provide parents and students with educational program information. I work in collaboration with East LA CoS team to present to the parents of East LA and the community the most current and relevant services and resources for students to thrive.
